JASON KIDD of the Brooklyn Nets won Eastern Conference coach of the month honors for March, becoming just the second NBA coach to win the award twice in his rookie season.
Kidd was honored Tuesday after the Nets went 12-4 while playing all month without starting center Kevin Garnett. He also won the award for January, joining Chicago’s Tom Thibodeau as the only two-time winners in their first season since the league began giving monthly coaching awards in 1982-83.
The Nets clinched a playoff berth also on Tuesday (Wednesday morning in Manila) following their victory over the Houston Rockets.
Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs won the West award after his team went undefeated in March, ending the month with a franchise-record, 18-game winning streak.
